Golden sits at the foot of the mountains on the west side of the metro, and Littleton spreads across the southwest suburbs. Buyers with a budget near $900,000 often end up weighing the two, and the numbers this fall pull them far apart.
Every figure below comes from Redfin's city pages, which I pulled on October 16, 2026. Each section links to live house searches on this site, so you can test the medians against homes listed today.
How much more house does $900,000 buy in Littleton than in Golden?
About 850 square feet more: $900,000 divided by Littleton's $274 median price per square foot is about 3,285 square feet, while the same budget at Golden's $369 is about 2,440.
The exact math is $900,000 / $274 = 3,285 and $900,000 / $369 = 2,439, a difference of 846 square feet. A single listing can land well above or below that because of age, lot size and how much of the basement is finished. To see it on real homes, compare the Golden houses from $800K to $1M with the Littleton houses from $800K to $1M.
- Golden: $909,567 median sale price, 0.1% higher than the same three months of 2025
- Littleton: $604,712 median sale price, essentially flat on the year at 0.048% lower
- Golden median price per square foot: $369, down 4.0% year over year
- Littleton median price per square foot: $274, up 6.8% year over year
How much of Golden's $305,000 higher median is price per foot?
Most of it, roughly $234,000 of the $304,855 gap, because Golden charges $95 more per square foot, while the somewhat larger homes that sold there explain only about $71,000.
Here is how I split it. Golden's median price divided by its price per square foot points to a home of about 2,465 square feet, compared with about 2,207 in Littleton. Priced at Littleton's $274, a 2,465-square-foot home would be about $675,410, which is $70,698 above Littleton's median. The remaining $234,157 is the per-foot premium. Ratios of medians are a rough hint, not a measured home size, so treat this as a way to frame the gap. The Golden houses for sale search and the Littleton houses for sale search both start at $600,000 and show houses only, while Redfin's medians also count condos and townhomes.
Does Golden or Littleton sell faster in 2026?
Golden does, with a median of 14 days on market compared with 25 in Littleton, but Littleton is the far larger market, with about nine times as many September closings in Redfin's counts.
Redfin counted 68 Golden sales in September 2026, up from 43 a year before, and 618 in Littleton, down from 658. With so few sales, Golden's medians can move a lot from one quarter to the next, so I lean harder on the listings in front of us there than on the citywide figure.
- Golden: 14 median days on market, 13 a year earlier
- Littleton: 25 median days on market, 33 a year earlier
- Golden sale-to-list ratio: 99.5%, up 0.03 points
- Littleton sale-to-list ratio: 98.8%, up 0.3 points
Is Littleton getting more competitive while Golden cools?
On Redfin's year-over-year changes, yes: Littleton's share of homes selling above list rose 7.0 points to 24.4%, while Golden's slipped 1.9 points to 28.4% and its share with a price drop climbed 5.4 points to 51.5%.
Littleton's price-drop share also eased 1.5 points to 47.7%. Golden still sells closer to asking, at 99.5% of list against 98.8%, which works out to about $6,300 on a $900,000 list price. In practice, a well-priced Golden home can still draw a quick offer, yet more than half of Golden listings saw a cut, so I read each listing's price history before suggesting a number.
