Relocating to Lakewood, CO in 2026: $700K Covers About 1,928 to 2,893 Square Feet Across 6 Zipcodes

Quick answer: Across Lakewood's six zipcodes, Redfin's median price per square foot ran from $242 in 80232 to $363 in 80215 for the three months ending September 2026, so $700,000 covers about 1,928 to 2,893 square feet. Only the 80228 median, $664,805, landed inside a $600K-$700K budget.

Buyers moving to Lakewood from out of state usually hand me a short brief: $600,000 to $700,000, at least three bedrooms, and a few days to tour. Lakewood has six zipcode searches on this site, and that budget lands in a very different place in each one.

The prices below come from Redfin's zipcode housing market pages, which I checked on October 24, 2026. They cover every home type sold, condos and townhomes included. Bedroom and home-type shares come from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey 2020-2024 five-year estimates, which count every home, owned or rented. The DMHP Lakewood searches linked below show single-family houses from $600,000.

What do homes cost in each Lakewood zipcode in 2026?

Medians ran from $352,896 in 80235 to $719,789 in 80215 for the three months ending September 2026, and 80228 was the one zipcode whose median fell between $600,000 and $700,000.

  • Lakewood 80215: $719,789, up 7.5% from a year earlier; $363 a square foot
  • Lakewood 80228: $664,805, down 4.9%; $279 a square foot
  • Lakewood 80226: $534,843, down 0.86%; $246 a square foot
  • Lakewood 80227: $532,094, down 2.4%; $258 a square foot
  • Lakewood 80232: $529,844, up 2.3%; $242 a square foot
  • Lakewood 80235: $352,896, down 25.1%; $270 a square foot

Four of the six medians sit under $600,000. That does not make a $600,000 house a bargain in those zipcodes. My read is that condos and townhomes pull those medians down, which the home-type shares further down bear out. The 80235 figure also rests on a thin market, with 17 homes sold in September, so a 25.1% drop says more about the mix of sales than about values.

How many square feet does $600,000 to $700,000 cover in each zipcode?

Divide the budget by each zipcode's median price per square foot and you get about 1,653 to 1,928 square feet in 80215 and about 2,479 to 2,893 in 80232.

  • 80232 at $242: about 2,479 square feet at $600,000 and 2,893 at $700,000
  • 80226 at $246: about 2,439 and 2,846
  • 80227 at $258: about 2,326 and 2,713
  • 80235 at $270: about 2,222 and 2,593
  • 80228 at $279: about 2,151 and 2,509
  • 80215 at $363: about 1,653 and 1,928

Treat this as a yardstick for the trip, not an appraisal. A median price per foot blends every home type, and a finished basement, a bigger lot or a remodel moves the price of any single house. Check what is actually listed in the Lakewood 80232 houses for sale, Lakewood 80226 houses for sale, Lakewood 80227 houses for sale, Lakewood 80235 houses for sale, Lakewood 80228 houses for sale and Lakewood 80215 houses for sale searches.

Which Lakewood zipcodes have the most homes with three or more bedrooms?

80228 and 80232, where 63.9% and 63.4% of homes have three or more bedrooms in the Census survey, the two highest shares of the six zipcodes I compared.

  • Lakewood 80228: 63.9% with three or more bedrooms; 56.2% detached houses
  • Lakewood 80232: 63.4%; 62.3% detached
  • Lakewood 80215: 53.1%; 50.5% detached
  • Lakewood 80226: 50.9%; 43.9% detached
  • Lakewood 80227: 50.9%; 44.0% detached
  • Lakewood 80235: 34.7%; 29.1% detached

These shares count every home in each zipcode, apartments and rentals included, and each count carries a margin of error (80228's total of 15,974 homes is plus or minus 567, and the six totals' margins run from 369 homes in 80235 to 647 in 80227), so read them as estimates. My read on 80235: with only 29.1% of its homes detached, its low median reflects how few stand-alone houses it has, not cheap houses. 80232 pairs the highest detached share with the lowest price per foot of the six, which is why it stretches a $700,000 budget furthest on paper.

Is a Lakewood mailing address always inside the City of Lakewood?

No. By land area in the Census Bureau's 2020 relationship files, the city covers 99.4% of 80226 but only 23.3% of 80235.

  • 80226: 99.4% City of Lakewood, 0.6% Denver
  • 80215: 93.0% City of Lakewood, 6.2% Wheat Ridge, 0.8% outside any city or town
  • 80228: 91.8% City of Lakewood, 0.4% Town of Morrison, 7.8% outside any city or town
  • 80232: 86.4% City of Lakewood, 0.9% Denver, 12.7% outside any city or town
  • 80227: 76.7% City of Lakewood, 14.4% Denver, 8.9% outside any city or town
  • 80235: 23.3% City of Lakewood, 25.1% Denver, 51.6% outside any city or town

All of 80215 and 80228 is in Jefferson County; the Denver shares above are the City and County of Denver. Land is not homes, so check each address in the Jefferson County Address Lookup and pull the year built and square footage from Jefferson County Assessor records. For an address in a Denver part of 80226, 80227, 80232 or 80235, use Denver's property search instead. The city and county on the record decide which local government serves the house.

How fast do Lakewood homes sell for a buyer flying in?

Median days on market ran from 10 in 80215 to 86 in 80235 for the three months ending September 2026.

  • 80215: 10 days; 46 homes sold in September
  • 80232: 16 days; 82 sold
  • 80227: 25 days; 96 sold
  • 80228: 26 days; 125 sold
  • 80226: 39 days; 84 sold
  • 80235: 86 days; 17 sold

My read for a buyer coming in from out of state: in 80215 and 80232, have a loan pre-approval and your must-have list done before the flight, because a house you like on Friday may be under contract by the next trip. 80228 had the most September sales of the six, 125, so it is where a short trip is most likely to put several options in front of you.

Where should a $600K-$700K Lakewood search start?

Start with the Lakewood price band that matches the budget, then narrow to the zipcodes that fit your bedroom count.

How do you confirm the school district for a Lakewood address?

Use the Jeffco lookup for a Jefferson County address and the Denver Public Schools boundary page for an address in one of the Denver parts.

The Jeffco articulation areas lookup shows which schools serve a specific Jefferson County address, the Denver Public Schools boundary schools page covers Denver addresses, and the Colorado Department of Education's SchoolView site has the state's reports on each school.
