Edgewater, CO Utility Bills in 2026: About $121 a Month for Water, Sewer and Trash, $190 in Summer

Quick answer: An Edgewater, CO house with a typical 3/4-inch meter pays the city about $121 a month in 2026 for water, sewer and a 65-gallon trash cart, using the City of Edgewater's 2026 rates at 7,000 gallons. A 15,000-gallon summer month runs about $190.

Buyers looking at Edgewater ask me what the house costs after the mortgage, and the city utility bill is the part almost nobody prices before an offer.

Edgewater runs its own water, sewer and trash billing, so I priced that bill from the city's 2026 rate letter, then added property tax and principal and interest on Redfin's Edgewater median. Treat every figure as a planning estimate, not a quote from the city.

What does a typical Edgewater utility bill cost in 2026?

About $120.65 a month for a house on a 3/4-inch meter that uses 7,000 gallons of water, with a 5,000-gallon winter average and a 65-gallon trash cart.

  • Water: $11.90 service charge plus 5,000 gallons at $6.89 and 2,000 at $8.61 per 1,000, about $63.57
  • Sewer: $10.13 service charge plus 5,000 gallons at $6.24 per 1,000, about $41.33
  • Trash: $15.75 for a 65-gallon cart, with recycling included
  • Total: about $120.65 a month, before Xcel Energy gas and electric

The city calls a 3/4-inch meter the typical residential line. Rates took effect on the March bill mailed in April 2026, and a larger meter carries a higher service charge.

How do Edgewater's 2026 water tiers work?

The first 5,000 gallons a month cost $6.89 per 1,000, gallons 5,001 to 15,000 cost $8.61, and anything over 15,000 costs $11.20, plus the $11.90 monthly service charge.

As I read the city's table, each rate applies only to the gallons inside its tier, not to the whole bill. That reading reproduces the city's own estimate for a typical customer, covered two sections down, to the cent.

  • 3,000 gallons: about $32.57 for water
  • 5,000 gallons: about $46.35
  • 7,000 gallons: about $63.57
  • 15,000 gallons: about $132.45
  • 20,000 gallons: about $188.45

Edgewater does not treat its own water. The city buys it from Denver Water and charges its customers, so wholesale prices drive these rates.

Why doesn't summer watering raise the Edgewater sewer charge?

Because the city bills sewer at $6.24 per 1,000 gallons of winter water use, so July sprinklers raise the water line but not the sewer line.

A 15,000-gallon summer month with a 5,000-gallon winter average runs about $132.45 for water, about $41.33 for sewer and $15.75 for trash, about $189.53 in total. A 20,000-gallon month runs about $245.53.

My example year: seven months at 5,000 gallons and five summer months at 15,000, with the same sewer and trash all year. That comes to about $1,672, or about $139 a month on average.

My read: the winter months set your sewer charge for the rest of the year, so a leaky toilet in winter costs more than its water.

How much did Edgewater's 2026 rates add to the bill?

About $10.55 a month for water and sewer on a typical house, the city's own estimate, plus $0.25 more for a 65-gallon trash cart.

The city says the water increase reflects rising wholesale costs from Denver Water and pipes, many installed from the 1950s through the 1980s, that need replacing. Sewer rose with Metro Water Recovery's treatment charges, and trash rose after a 2025 rebid of the hauling contract.

  • Water service charge: $9.84 to $11.90
  • First 5,000 gallons: $5.93 to $6.89 per 1,000
  • Gallons 5,001 to 15,000: $7.39 to $8.61
  • Sewer: $9.83 to $10.13 service charge and $6.05 to $6.24 per 1,000 gallons

At 7,000 gallons with a 5,000-gallon winter average, the 2025 rates came to about $109.85 with the same cart, so the full bill rose about $10.80. On my example year the rise is about $161.

Council also weighed a stormwater fee for 2026 and deferred it, so a future stormwater charge is a line to watch.

What if an Edgewater house is in the East Jefferson County Sanitation District?

Then the district, not the city, bills your sewer: $8.05 per 1,000 gallons of your winter quarterly average water use, with a $36.25 quarterly minimum, billed quarterly in arrears.

The city's rate letter says its sewer increases do not apply to East Jefferson customers. If the district bills 15,000 gallons for a quarter, my reading of its schedule puts that at about $120.75, or about $40.25 a month, near the city's $41.33.

The district's customer page says the owner maintains the sewer lateral from the house to the main in the street or alley. Its 2026 schedule also lists a $100 title transfer fee and a $150 inspection fee for service line repairs.

What does Edgewater trash and compost service cost?

Trash runs $10.75, $15.75 or $21.75 a month for a 32-, 65- or 95-gallon cart in 2026, with every-other-week recycling included.

  • A second 95-gallon cart: $10.50 a month, only if you already have a 95-gallon cart
  • Weekly compost: $18.75 a month with a 32- or 64-gallon trash bin, $19.75 with a 96-gallon bin
  • Large items: two free pickups a year, then $27.50 per item

What does the Edgewater median cost each month with utilities included?

About $4,115 a month on the $668,682 median with 20% down, counting principal and interest, property tax and the typical city utility bill, before homeowners insurance.

  • Price: $668,682, Redfin's Edgewater median sale price for the three months ending September 2026 (all home types; down 2.9% year over year, a median of 18 days on market)
  • Down payment: $133,736, for a $534,946 loan
  • Principal and interest: about $3,675 a month at Freddie Mac's 7.32% average for October 22, 2026
  • Property tax: about $320 a month ($3,836 a year) at 86.117 mills
  • City utilities: about $121 a month

The tax line uses Jefferson County's 2025 levies (taxes paid in 2026) from its tax authority reports, with the 7.05% school and 6.25% local assessment rates in the Division of Property Taxation's 2025 bulletin. The City of Edgewater's own levy is 0.000 mills.

The county's 2024 authority list puts Edgewater in 12 tax areas, or TAGs, 4001 to 4019. They run 86.117 to 86.688 mills, about $3,836 to $3,860 a year at the median, depending on whether the parcel is also in East Jefferson or Wheatridge Sanitation. Your tax statement shows the TAG.

What should you ask about utilities before an offer in Edgewater?

Ask who bills the sewer, what size the water meter is, and for a year of the seller's bills, because those three set your number.

  • Sewer provider: City of Edgewater or the East Jefferson County Sanitation District, which bills on its own quarterly schedule
  • Meter size: a 1-inch meter carries a $23.80 water service charge and a $20.26 sewer charge, against $11.90 and $10.13 on 3/4-inch
  • Winter water use: it sets the sewer charge, so ask for the seller's winter bills
  • Trash cart: confirm the cart size on the seller's bill, since it sets the trash line

Where should an Edgewater search start?

Start with the Edgewater price band that fits your payment with about $121 of utilities added, then compare Lakewood and Wheat Ridge houses, where the water and sewer provider can change by address and the bill needs its own math.

How much should you budget for utilities on an Edgewater house?

Plan on about $121 a month for a typical house, and on about $190 in summer months if you water a lawn.

Budget about $72 a month if:

  • You use about 3,000 gallons a month all year and keep the 32-gallon cart

Budget about $121 a month if:

  • You use about 7,000 gallons with a 5,000-gallon winter average and a 65-gallon cart

Budget about $190 in summer if:

  • Irrigation pushes you to 15,000 gallons in a month, and about $246 at 20,000

Add $18.75 a month if:

  • You want weekly compost pickup with a 32- or 64-gallon trash bin
